I’ve been taking some of these side jobs by word-of-mouth. I enjoy the work, and people seem to like working with me, so that’s all good. Plus, let’s face it: Writing doesn’t pay very well, and I can use the money. So, what the heck; I’ll open this up further. If you’re interested, we can talk.

What I Do:
My most popular service is helping workshop your short stories. Between us, we’ll agree on an hourly rate with a minimum payment per job. You’ll post your story on Google Docs and send me a Commenting link; I’ll read it and offer edits, corrections, and suggestions. Each project comes with a small amount of time reserved for discussion via Discord or other chat service. For reference, it takes me an hour to go over a well-written final draft of a 3000-word short story, not counting discussion. Complete books take me substantially longer and, all things being equal, will cost more; likewise first-draft efforts.

My specialty is genre fiction: fantasy, sci-fi, mystery, horror (not TOO graphic, thanks) and so on. I’m also available for assistance with business communication, persuasive editorials, factual articles, and the like. I don’t do children’s books, and I’m not in my element with romance. However, good writing is good writing regardless of the subject.

What I Don’t Do:
I don’t work for free, for services in kind, or under the table for a discount. PayPal or certain forms of crypto are the easiest ways to send payment, and I claim all my income on my taxes. I don’t guarantee success, merely guidance; there’s nothing that says you have to do as I suggest, for one thing. And I neither work with nor use chatbot AI.

I also don’t accept jobs on spec, assist with documents written in crayon or Comic Sans, or treat people with kid gloves. Your work comes from your heart, I know — so this will probably hurt. I’ll be sympathetic, but I won’t lie to you no matter how much I get paid. Also, think twice before gifting this service to a friend or relative. They may not appreciate it.
