The Not Fake News now has Editorial Oversight and Advisory Board. Nick Maloney and McKenzie Kieth have joined us to offer their wit, erudition, and sense of perspective going forward.
One of the dangers faced by the press is the potential to misuse the power of the written word, whether to unfairly promote one’s own bias or, as often, causing unintended harm through irresponsible reporting. The Board exists as a way to keep us honest, to provide a voice of reason when called for, and to help rein in any excesses brought on by caffeine overdose.
The Board faced its trial run the other day, and along with volunteer researchers from our Brain Trust assisted greatly in the review process for the Under Color Of Law article.
As Editor-in-Chief, I’m proud of their efforts, and extremely grateful for their willingness to assist — which brings me to the second item on today’s list: Mugs.
We don’t quite meet expenses here at The Not Fake News, which is to be expected; independent journalism is suffering financial losses around the world, and even major news and infotainment organizations are being forced to make massive budget and staffing cuts. We can’t even afford to pay our guest writers yet, much less provide customary perks like stipends and press junkets for our board members. (In point of fact, we’re falling behind on the coffee cart yet again. -Editor)
Instead, and in keeping with our coffee-based funding, we’ve hit upon the novel offering of The Not Fake News coffee mugs as a thank-you gift for those of you who have made substantial contributions. A couple of you have sent donations as large as $100, and others have expended substantial time helping with research. We can’t afford to send one to everyone who donates or offers a tip, but even if you don’t reach that threshold we remain thankful for your help; I’m personally very grateful.
Bear in mind: Many donations arrive anonymously, and there’s no way for me to get in touch with you to ask where to send your mug. If you want one and think you’ve qualified, send an email to TheNotFakeNews at gmail dot com. (If you want your request to get special attention, send it along with a $100 donation and you can be assured it will be noticed. -Editor)
It’s been five years now, and we’re growing. We couldn’t do it without you, my friends. Thank you all for your continued support.
The Not Fake News runs on ramen noodles and copious amounts of caffeine, and we can always use more. If you enjoy reading these updates, we urge you to either consider PayPal or
