It’s Only A Matter Of Time

…and I can’t say it hasn’t happened. In fact, I rather think it may have.

Just over a year ago, I predicted a bloody spring. My premise was that we as a population produce a set percentage of people who go violently insane every year, and the crops from 2020 and 2021 had been festering under lockdown in their parent’s basements, just waiting for a new crowd to form so they could self-destruct in public as rampage shooters. Regrettably, that turned out to be the case, and it’s repeating again this spring.

Guns Don’t Kill People. Terrorists Kill People.

EDITORIAL

People are upset that the Senate has tabled a bill to ban AR-15s, even though they were the weapon of choice at Highland Park, Uvalde, and Buffalo.

That doesn’t disappoint me; it doesn’t even surprise me. What does is that so very many people continue to miss the most obvious point of all.

Mass Shooters And Terrorists

We’re in the situation we’re in because people are ignorant and easily deluded.  I refer to rampage shooters and terrorists both, exploited and manipulated into committing their ghastly acts, as well as to you the reader.  It’s an unpleasant truth, but in order to combat it, we’ve prepared a short summary of some history that everyone really ought to know.  The diligent reader may learn how they are being manipulated and by whom — and perhaps even do a little independent thinking.

It’s a bit of a reach, I know, but I have faith in you.

Gun Violence: Let’s Solve The Problems

In the preceding article, we discussed different kinds of gun violence, organized by cause. Most gun violence is suicide; only a very few mass shootings ever occur in classrooms. Ideally, none would; ideally, people also wouldn’t ever want to kill themselves, guns notwithstanding.

We don’t live in an ideal world.

That’s no reason not to strive for one.

Before We Begin: A Crash Course On Terms

In order to do this properly, we’ll need a discourse, so that all sides can find middle ground that they can agree on. And in order to communicate, we’ll each need to use the same words to mean the same things.

For example: It might surprise some people to learn that there is actually no such thing as an “Assault Weapon”. Sure, you’ll find it in the dictionary of your choice, but the definitions are nebulous and disagree. They named the 1994 law after it, but the descriptions involved such superficial specifics as a bayonet lug or pistol grip without enough generalities to retain long-term value. The law expired in 2004; by then, the industry had long since retooled such that they could largely avoid its strictures.

On The Politics Of Murderers

This last one was an Australian eco-fascist obsessed with global warming, an Odinist hoping to spark civil war in the United States by provoking anti-gun riots.

To which I say: So what?

He was a murdering psychopath. His politics are incidental; they merely aimed him. Without those, he’d have detonated elsewhere. (more…)
