Who Is The Enemy?

Whenever there’s a war on, the vast complexities of the whole wide world become suddenly simple. There’s Our Side over here, and Their Side over there, and Their soldiers are trying to kill Our soldiers; and so, They are The Enemy. If Our soldiers didn’t fight back, they’d get killed, and worse they’d get other people killed; and so it would be cowardice, or even rank treachery. There’s a time for questions like Who’s Right and Who’s Wrong, and that time is not now, because right now there’s someone with a gun and he’s trying to shoot you, and the best you can do is react; thinking will distract you, and that sort of thing will get you killed.

So even posing the question, “Which side is the right side, really, when you come right down to it?” when you’re at war is a form of treason; it’s Letting Your Side Down.

Mass Shooters And Terrorists

We’re in the situation we’re in because people are ignorant and easily deluded.  I refer to rampage shooters and terrorists both, exploited and manipulated into committing their ghastly acts, as well as to you the reader.  It’s an unpleasant truth, but in order to combat it, we’ve prepared a short summary of some history that everyone really ought to know.  The diligent reader may learn how they are being manipulated and by whom — and perhaps even do a little independent thinking.

“When our founding fathers gave us freedom of speech in the 1st Amendment, it meant all speech, whether you like it or not!”  -R.H.

No complex question has a simple answer.

Confederate Monuments

In Easton, Pennsylvania stands a massive monument to the fallen soldiers of the Civil War.  There’s a central column seventy-five feet high surmounted by a statue of a bugler.  Around the base are granite statues, plaques, plinths, and a fountained moat.  It is massive, ugly, surprisingly tasteless, and dedicated to the honored dead.

And nobody is agitating to have it pulled down.

From Baltimore to Texas, all across the South, monuments to the soldiers (more…)

On Banning Assault Rifles

It’s said even Reagan was against every Tom, Dick, and Harry owning an AK-47.  And that may well be true; on the other hand, what difference does it make?  We should keep this discussion to the essentials, and reduce whatever we can to its core.

There exists a philosophical difficulty with banning “assault rifles”; it can be (more…)

Why Terrorism Is Stupid

Bombings in Egypt and Lebanon.  Shootings in Paris and California.  Terror attack after terror attack after terror attack.

Folks, we’re in the situation we’re in because people are ignorant and easily deluded.  I refer both to terrorists, exploited and manipulated into committing their ghastly acts, and to you the reader.  In order to oppose this, (more…)
