Selling Guns To Terrorists

There’s a Jimmy Carter quote floating around the Internet.  At least, it purports to be a quote; I can’t find any source for it, but it’s fairly popular these days.  It goes like this:

We cannot be both the world’s leading champion of peace and the world’s leading supplier of the weapons of war.

I agree wholeheartedly with this sentiment.  And, since selling guns is the more profitable of the two options, I say we pick that one.  Someone’s got to, after all (more…)

Wrong Way With Cuba

Our government needs to normalize relations with Cuba.

We have nothing to fear from Cuba.  Think about it:  The Cold War is over.  There is no more Supreme Soviet; there’s no risk the Socialists are going to come in from overseas to corrupt us.  Truth be told, they’re already here and running for president, and a lot of people think that’s a good thing.

And let’s face it:  Our southern (more…)

And It’s Not About A Wall Either

The present situation has almost nothing to do with a border wall.

I submit that Mr. Trump is attempting to (more…)

Talks Break Down Over Color Of Wall

Tonight, angry Democrats stormed out of a meeting with the President on border security after failing to reach an agreement over the color of the new wall panels presently under construction in the Sonora Desert.

“This is an unprecedented abuse of power,” said Minority Leader Schumer.  “No president should hold the government hostage.” (more…)

More Important Than A Wall, Part 2

Nearly two weeks ago, I posted an article in support of a border wall with Mexico, one I still hold to.

The following day, I began writing about other things that were at least as important as border defenses, and here we’ll discuss the second of them in more detail.  Remember:  This is not an either-or situation (more…)

A Dispassionate Look At A Border Wall

One of the great dangers to us during the Trump presidency is our tendency to automatically discount anything the man says as either false, foolish, or insane.

There’s a reason we do this:  Donald Trump is well known for proclaiming the impossible loudly and repeatedly, as though that would make it true — or convince anyone aside from his more militant followers.  However, just because he says something doesn’t automatically make that thing wrong.

I want to be very clear:  I disagree with many of Trump’s policies and far more of his statements.  I believe him to be ill-mannered and (at best) deliberately provocative (more…)

Keep Watching Venezuela

World news sources are covering the big day of riots in Venezuela.  Three were reported killed yesterday as protestors marched, demonstrated, rioted violently, and looted shops in what’s being called the “Mother Of All Protests” against the government of President Nicolas Maduro.  Opposition leaders in the nation’s parliament are calling for more days of protests unless Maduro steps down.

Meanwhile, CNN has announced that Serena Williams is pregnant. (more…)

Not Korea Or Syria, But Venezuela

Caracas is about five hundred miles south of Puerto Rico, and it’s home to one of the most troubled economies in the world.  And, while the United States has indeed played a part in letting this happen, as a whole it’s mostly the fault of the Venezuelan government.

Books could be written here, and some no doubt have been.  I’m going to keep this short, however, and in order to do that (more…)
