Free Speech Isn’t

The battle for tomorrow is here, and it’s nothing like the wars of the past. They had clear-cut lines of good and evil, us and them. All we have is a chaos of competing ideas and a populace that, by and large, made up their minds long before any thought got involved. In a sense, this fight is more hopeless than any beach; in another sense, there’s nobody shooting at me, so I can stand up and shout myself hoarse and nothing bad will happen. It’s just that my solutions fix no problems and my words reach no hearts, because even on the off chance someone reads this, nobody’s listening.

But I’ll try anyway.

The Irrelevant In The Room

One of the things that very much doesn’t matter, and I can’t stress this enough, is Donald Trump’s opinion on anything.

After five years of being a windbag who dominated the press, he has been silenced. His last messages were “Go down to Congress and tell them…” followed by “We love you; you’re special; go home.” He is now off Twitter, off Facebook, and if Parler were still functioning— but of course it’s not.

What I’m Not Saying

I haven’t been writing here recently, and a few of you now have asked about it.

It’s not that there’s nothing new to say; that’s for sure.  Every time I read the news, something jumps out at me that begs for a response.  The media is constantly over-hyping the unimportant; that’s worth a mention.  Likewise, during the ensuing firestorm, there’s always things that get missed.  Then too, most of last week’s stories were misreported, but now they’ve fallen off the front page there’s nobody out there correcting the record.

So there’s plenty of worthy topics, and that’s if I just stick to commenting on the media and politics. (more…)

Blowing Trump’s Horn

No hooker jokes, folks:  Apparently, President Trump has gotten sick of blowing his own horn and instead has hired a professional.

You might remember Kayleigh McEnany from the heady days of the campaign.  She’s the CNN commentator who endorsed Trump waaay back when, and upon whom they regularly called to defend his positions.  She’s now working directly for Trump (more…)
