Let’s Make Change Happen

Something I keep hearing, over and over: “My vote doesn’t matter!”

It’s either that or another similar message, like, They’re all bought and paid for anyway, or One person can’t change things, or even I’m too busy.

Nonsense! I’m writing today to tell you not only that change is possible, not only that you have the power to help, but exactly how you can do this.

When Is Voter Suppression OK?

EDITORIAL

I’ve been known on occasion to display my militantly moderate tendencies to the unwary.

It happens. I know it’s still considered impolite to discuss politics in public, but, in fairness, where else could we possibly talk about them? It’s like what Willie Sutton said about why he robbed banks: ’cause that’s where the money is. The people are in public, so I talk to them in public.

F&L: Our Endorsement

The editorial staff of The Not Fake News, together with our Brain Trust, has long debated registering our formal endorsement for the Presidency of the United States.  With the departure of Bernie Sanders from the race, we have finally determined that there’s absolutely nobody running we think is qualified, competent, mentally stable, and has unimpeachable moral standards.

This is nothing new in American politics.  Very few of our presidents (more…)

It’s Not A Coup

Both the departure of Evo Morales from the presidency of Bolivia and the ongoing impeachment proceedings against Donald Trump have been called coups by loyalists.

I’m sure you’ll understand if I don’t (more…)

California: The New Confederacy

Storied wealth, culture, and aristocratic society.  Massive mansions full of servants next to scenes of unspeakable poverty.  Vast green plantations capable of feeding entire nations.  And supporting it all, the Peculiar Institution that is slavery. (more…)

When Tomorrow Comes…

Do you hear the people sing,
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
(from the musical Les Misérables)

Not trying to be a downer here, but yes, you will still be slaves tomorrow.

I know; I know.  That’s no way to hook people into reading (more…)

All Politics Are Local, Even In An Off Year

Today is Election Day again, the “Tuesday next after the first Monday in the month of November”.  Time to make your voices heard, my friends.

It’s an off year; in many states there’s not much to vote on.  In fact, according to BallotPedia, today there’s fewer statewide ballot measures offered than in any year since 1947.  There are two states with (more…)

Don’t Waste Your Vote

Is Donald Trump a dangerous madman?  Is Hillary Clinton assassinating her political foes?  Is someone rigging the ballots and cheating us out of our elections?

I’m pretty sure Trump is far more clever and personable than he lets on, and I’m also quite certain that nobody who’s as much in the spotlight as Senator Clinton could sneak away from her Secret Service entourage long enough to commit murder.  But the answer to that third question is an emphatic “YES!” (more…)
