F&L: Tulsi Gabbard Suspends Campaign

I thought it would never happen.  Either Gabbard or Yang was going to stay in way too long and then endorse Sanders, was my prediction.  And now they’ve both let me down.

I mean, yeah, sure, nobody could have predicted the election would pivot to be about the Coronavirus.  Taking down Trump I can see, and I even anticipated that the Democratic establishment would fear a Sanders presidency even more than a Trump (more…)

F&L: Ohio Is –NOT– Still Voting, And Other News

You may have heard that Ohio is delaying its primary.  It is not — yet.  At the eleventh hour, a judge has blocked the governor’s petition to reschedule in-person primary voting.  Not long after, the state health department ordered all polling places closed and the governor ordered that no results be posted until June 2 so an alternative could be generated.

This proposal wasn’t made from whim, but rather according to CDC guidance and with the concurrence of both state Republican and Democratic parties.  Regardless, the (more…)

F&L: Two Angry Furbys

Tomorrow, the 53,000-odd residents of the Northern Marianas will hold their Democratic Caucuses.  Curiously, this territory, which is strongly Republican and has no sway in the November elections, will award 6 at-large delegates and another 5 superdelegates.

Nobody’s running here; nobody’s done any serious polling.  Bloomberg had operatives (more…)

F&L: And Then There Were Two… Uh, Three

It’s official.  The race is down to three candidates:  Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden, and… oh, yes, Tulsi Gabbard.

With Warren’s announcement this morning, the last of the minor candidacies has ended.  We won’t see eight people on the stage in the Arizona debate; we’ll see two.  Not three, mind; The Party has been (more…)

F&L: Wednesday The Sun Rose Clear

Yesterday, Democratic voters in fourteen states and American Samoa participated in our quadrennial contest, where we choose the contender for the upcoming presidential race.  People flocked to the polls in overwhelming numbers, in many cases swamping the facilities and staff to register their selection.

Common wisdom has it that the winner on Super Tuesday will (more…)

F&L: Going Into Super Tuesday

It’s here.

Tuesday’s vote will decide who stays in the race and who goes home.  It may decide who comes out of July’s convention as the final candidate.  In that sense, it’s quite possible it may determine our next president.  I cannot overstate the importance of this primary event.

On the other hand, common wisdom has it that, as always, The Fix Is In.  There’s (more…)

Fear & Loathing: Yes, Nevada Is A Caucus

What you need to know going into today:  Nevada is a caucus state, but different from Iowa.  Every state is different, of course, but Nevada is very different.  And I’m not just talking about the prostitution laws, although that does hit politicians very close to home; no, they do everything differently here in the Sagebrush State.

To begin with, it’s a closed caucus; only registered party members can vote.  Which would matter (more…)

F&L 2020: And The Winner Is…

It’s past midnight.  Primary Day has come and gone in New Hampshire, and (unlike in Iowa) we have a clear winner:  Bernie Sanders.

We actually have three winners, if we include the Mayor In Waxwork.  Amy Klobuchar’s come-from-behind resurgence to a 20% return is enough to get her taken seriously going forward, which makes her the real story of today.  If she can sustain that momentum through either South Carolina or Nevada, she’s suddenly a top contender. (more…)

F&L 2020: The New Hampshire Spirit — 24 Hours And Counting

“Manchester, New Hampshire, is a broken down mill town on the Merrimack River with an aggressive Chamber of Commerce and America’s worst newspaper.  There is not much else to say for it, except that Manchester is a welcome change from Washington, D.C.”
Hunter S. Thompson, “Fear and Loathing ’72”

“You’re here because of America.”
Mitt Romney, Manchester, 2012

“I’m here because I love my country, and I care very much for our future.”
Tulsi Gabbard, Manchester, 2020

Ever since the Fear and Loathing 2020 Tour first descended on New Hampshire (more…)

Fear & Loathing 2020: Sitting At The Loser’s Table

Gabbard’s a no-show again.  Most of us weren’t expecting her, but some of her supporters were quite crestfallen.  After all, if you can’t handle a teeny little February ice storm, how can you possibly expect to deal with the stress of being president?

Earlier today, Rianna was telling us about a Tulsi cancellation where she apologized by video, then sang her loyal peeps a song while her sister danced a hula in the background.  It’s no wonder her followers love her so much.  But the (more…)
