“This is no joke!” she says. “We need to focus on keeping a democracy for anybody to be president in the next couple of years. That’s my central focus, is helping the people of this country right now.”
Yes, you heard it right, folks. She thinks our democracy is coming to an end, but the power of her seat in Congress might just be enough to stem the tide of history and give her a chance to prevent total and complete obliteration. If, that is, we vote for her. If we donate money. Lots and lots of money.
Don’t worry, Republicans: I’ll get to you in a second, but you lost in 2020. Sucks to be you.
When Joe Biden was anointed by the moneyed wings of the D.N.C. to become the approved candidate for the Presidency in 2020, it was an impressive gamble on the premise that we vote for the people with whom we most identify. It was a field that contained two highly capable, brilliant, and charismatic women, a massive populist machine that backed an unapologetic socialist, a Rhodes Scholar who nevertheless somehow wasn’t the smartest man in the room… Any of these people would have done the office proud. Instead, we managed to elect the only candidate who was worse at completing sentences than Donald Trump.
Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D. Arizona) has gained a ton of positive press recently, particularly among Republicans, for her hardnosed pro-bipartisanship stance during the recent negotiations over the infrastructure bill. Alongside such notable moderates as Susan Collins, Joe Manchin, and Lisa Murkowski, she has prioritized accomplishment over partisan politics. Of course this is drawing the ire of her party, particularly that part of the progressive wing loyal to Ocasio-Cortez. They have little tolerance for moderates, and have begun fundraising for a PAC to defeat her in her next primary race.
Politicians, the news, and social media are all full of stories about the Post Office: According to most, the present administration is attempting to gut it for nefarious purposes. To this end, they’ve hired a major party donor and Wall Street crony to run it into the ground. This person’s payment will obviously be through his massive investment in competing companies.
One of the first rules of detecting Fake News is the following question: Is this too good to be true?(more…)
It’s a big photo, well-shot and finely detailed. Blow it up a little and you can clearly see: This is to the side of an open vehicle gate. It is, as we can see from other photos, at a secure parking lot. Not only does this section of fence hold nobody inside, there’s a great big wide-open hole right next to the cameraman.
If you’re unfamiliar with the subject matter, this is AOC on a promotional photo shoot from when she was first running for office. She’s seen here weeping crocodile tears for the camera outside a temporary tent city set up for the processing of migrant asylum-seekers.
The Internet is making fun of her for having posed for the pictures. Her office has issued indignant denials; that’s real emotion, they say.
