Two old stories made headlines again today, both Trump-Russia. Neither one is news.
A short time ago, Rep. Devin Nunes (R. Calif.), Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, held a brief press conference in which he stated he was on his way to the White House to inform the President about a recent discovery. Caracas is about five hundred miles south of Puerto Rico, and it’s home to one of the most troubled economies in the world. And, while the United States has indeed played a part in letting this happen, as a whole it’s mostly the fault of the Venezuelan government.

In testimony before the House Intelligence Committee today, Monday, 20 Mar 2017, FBI Director James Comey confirmed that his agency is in fact investigating whether the Russian government attempted to influence the 2016 presidential election, and who if anyone colluded with them in their actions. As well, he spoke at some brief length on the process involved in ordering wiretaps, stating that President Obama could not have tapped the phone lines at Trump Tower during the election.

Once again the headlines are blaring alarms. This time, the stories are (allegedly) full of news about Donald Trump’s proposed budget.
To begin with, I’d like to mention in passing that his intent to slash services is not news. We knew it already; it’s merely him keeping his campaign promises. Which, admittedly, is unusual for politicians in general, but Mr. Trump has kept a fair number so far, so this (more…)

President Donald J. Trump: The words are painful for many of us. This is understandable; his persona is not one that engenders trust and comfort, and we’ve had it easy for eight years. Obama was quietly charismatic and sought bipartisanship; Trump is almost diametrically opposite. So yes, it’s a bit of a shock.

The United States House of Representatives is one of the most universally detested and despised body of lawmakers in existence. Their approval rating is generally only just in the double digits, and most citizens would sooner trust used car salesmen. A 2013 survey ranked congress south of head lice, root canals, and colonoscopies.

I’m going to be honest: This may never see Part Two. There is so very much to write about that a lot of very important things will certainly fall by the wayside over the next few weeks and months, and this may be one of them.
But it was a very important happening on Tuesday, and here it is Thursday and there’s been no coverage. The major media is letting this slide because they have the same problem I do: Too much happens all at once, and there’s only one front page.

Feb. 25, 1942. Just before 3am, the Japanese launched an air raid on the city of Los Angeles; by the end of the encounter, five men were dead and numerous injured, 1500 rounds of antiaircraft artillery had been fired and several enemy saboteurs had been arrested and turned over to the F.B.I.
This was it. The ‘unassailable mainland’ was finally the target of Japanese bombs and all the drilling done by the raw American volunteers would be put to the test.

There’s a survey the White House has put out in advance of the President’s scheduled first address to a joint session of Congress. Which promises to be quite a spectacle, of course; given the present antagonistic climate in D.C., I won’t be shocked if the Democrats pull some sort of horrible stunt and if the President responds with a blistering rant.
